What will your Legacy Be?

13596626-olympic-torch-on-black-backgroundThe year is ending now and I hope you are preparing to wind down and also spend time with friends, family and colleagues in the spirit of Christmas.

I am writing to you from Leipzig in Germany where I came as part of a delegation party for a 7-day World Congress representing London for the Junior Chamber International (JCI).

JCI has its core values which among other values include community impact, personal growth and giving back- that to me, translates to legacy. The journey so far has expanded my networks and relationship building capacity, as well as enabled me to make strategic alliances with potential project partners. The diversity of culture is also quite enriching.

Being a seasoned traveller to mainly English speaking nations, I welcome the challenge of being in a country where English is not the predominant language. This has helped me step out of my comfort zone, from being loose or lazy with my language, to finding creative ways to articulate myself better in order to get what I want or where I need to get to. It is an experience I am consciously translating to other parts of my life in widening my perspectives in business transactions, for example- where I would normally give a blanket  overview or package deal of a program/service- I am now looking at different possibilities of getting better results by breaking down the services into individual or tailor made options that are more relevant or palatable for my consumers and customers.

I recently had a business spotlight opportunity to showcase my ‘Write and grow rich’ program at a conference, and got an overwhelming response from attendees. A great selling point for them was the fact that they can actually write a book as part of a legacy project, creating something that will outlast them. Click here to watch my 2-minute marathon Pitch

My question to you is: What will your legacy be for this year? What will it be for this decade? Most importantly what will be your lifetime legacy? You have an opportunity right now that most people don’t get, as their lives are somewhat cut short before they take time to even think about this. Not to sound morbid at all, but I would like to challenge you to take time to write your own eulogy in order to consciously live your life to fulfill this. YOUR own chosen and written words and way of living should be congruent with what will be said of you when you depart from this earth. What will they say about you? What are you doing about it now? This is not about people-pleasing, rather it’s about living your life authentically and purposefully in order to live and leave a true testament of how you chose to live it well.

I was saddened to hear about the recent passing of an extraordinary man known as Dr. Myles Munroe, and he is one great example of someone who lived his purpose. Most of what I know about life and business Purpose comes from the wealth of wisdom I drew and continue to draw from him. I recommend you to make time to study his material. I took comfort in knowing that he certainly built a legacy that will live on for generations to come. To me, his name is synonymous with leadership, legacy and purpose.

As you think about your goals for next year, make sure you include some legacy projects. This could mean going back to school to study a craft/course that will help you make a lasting impact within your community; joining clubs like JCI or any other group that enables you to make a difference; volunteering at a school or community project or yes you guessed it- writing your own book next year!

If you would like to have shot at immortality, where your voice and your words can speak beyond the grave by writing a book, get in touch with me and we could work together to make this dream a reality. Being an author is a game-changer. I have had business and speaking platforms open up for me as a result of this. I was recently approached by a respectable high-ranking official and dignitary, with a proposal to expand my brand and business portfolio into something I had not even envisioned beyond my wildest dreams! He has made this possible for other individuals and well-known corporate organizations, so I have every confidence in the viability of his proposals- watch this space. All this has been a result of me writing my own book-My visibility has increased. I say this not to impress you but impress upon you that this can be done and yes YOU can do it too!
